Angola: Young Farmer Aquaculture Project Creates Jobs

Malanje — At least 110 young people from the municipalities of Malanje and Cacuso, northern Malanje province obtained their first job in the pilot project to encourage agriculture and aquaculture.

An initiative of the Malanje provincial government, the project, called “Young Farmer and Aquaculture”, aims at promoting self-employment and reducing rural exodus.

Launched on Thursday by Governor Norberto dos Santos “Kwata Kanawa”, it is funded by AKz 24.7 million from the Integrated Programme for Local Development and Poverty Reduction (PIDLCP).

In Malanje municipality, the project is initially focused on agricultural production, with an area of 50 hectares in Vulangombe.

There, potatoes, maize and beans will be produced involving 50 young people, distributed in five cooperatives (10 for each).

In the municipality of Cacuso, the initiative is being implemented in the agricultural and aquaculture component.

For this firts initiative, 67 hectares are reserved for the production of cassava and vegetables in the municipalities of Lombe, Soqueco and Pungo-Andongo.

The second scheme has five 15/20 tanks, each with two thousand fish.
