NIGERIA’S DJ BLIZZ SAYS AFRO BEAT CONNECTS AFRICA TO THE WORLD

Mr. Samual Ikenna Ajuzie, popularly known as DJ Blizz is one of Nigeria’s finest Disc Jockeys based in Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He is one of the biggest Afrobeat DJ in Nigeria and has been in the game since 2013. His love for music got him starting with Music Software Production-FL Studio and Virtual DJ Software. In the course of playing around with both apps, he discovered he enjoyed Virtual DJ more and that has brought him thus far. Watching other DJs play, watching the joy music brings to people’s faces has inspired and made him focus on being a Disc Jockey.

As a music lover, he plays every genre of music like hip pop, trap, etc. but he loves and plays more of the Afro-beat sound. He believes it connects Africa with other parts of the world. He had introduced the proper native African sound, the Konga to some the music videos on his social media space… “With Konga”, he said, “you will feel and appreciate the raw Afro-beat sound”.

Talking about his career journey, he stated that seeing his dreams come through has been the most rewarding part of being a DJ. Over the years, DJ Blizz has recorded his own songs and worked with other talented Artists. One of his most recent soon-to-be-released songs is “Jolly”, in which he featured one of finest Artist in the south side of Nigeria, Ryfle Music.  He has performed in various musical events like ‘Trace in the City” and the biggest event in the south side “Bole Festival”. Since he joined the entertainment industry, he has met with Africa’s best Artistes, connected with other businesses and brands, been on the same stage with Africa’s music super stars like Davido, WizKid, Dandizzy, DJ Jimmy Jatt, DJ Exclusive etc. as well as travelled around the continent.

With the way African music is progressing, he sees African music as the future because from World chart to Billboard playlist to Apple music playlist and so many other music streaming platforms, African music has consistently topped the chart. African music is going from being locally exported to being the real deal right now. He said he got not less than three (3) International orders for African songs playlist during the COVID-19 pandemic. Indeed, African music has really taken over the space.

DJ Blizz observed that the beauty of music has brought about major collaborations between Nigerian music artists and other artists around the world and this has affected the economy positively.  A major chunk of the Nigerian figure comes from digital consumption. With the likes of Davido featuring Chris brown, Psquare – Rick Ross, Wizkid –Beyoncé, and other major collaborations that has taken place, Nigerian music has now consistently been in the limelight. Also, the rise of Music Festivals and Ambassadorships has opened up global expansion of which the Tourism sector has greatly benefitted from.

On succeeding as a DJ, he advised that one has to love of music – all genre of music; have the basic knowledge and craft of the Disc Jockey skill; and lastly be digitally connected so as to spread content across the media space. He emphasized on the importance of using Social Media and its tool to share content such as updating on Deezer, Audio-Mack, Boom-play, Apple music etc. He noted that choosing this career path comes with some disadvantages because DJ’s are often underrated. People tend to think Disc Jockey is easy at such DJs get little or nothing as remuneration.

DJ Blizz is a humble, hardworking guy and would love to record with WizKid or Davido in future.
