The United States government, through USAID, the Office of Security Cooperation, and Camp Lemonier handed over a fully functional Mobile Field Hospital to the Ministry of Health. This $4,000,000 facility is equipped with water supply, plumbing, power generators, and biomedical equipment. The unit can be moved where needed to help respond to disasters or lessen the burden on other health care facilities. It is the second mobile hospital unit the U. S. government has donated to the Djiboutian government. The other is currently being used by the Ministry of Defense.
Dr. Ahmed Robleh Abdullah, Djibouti’s Minister of Health, said of the mobile hospital, “This important donation illustrates the perfect fraternal and sustainable collaboration between our two countries.” Major General Shawley of the Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa, added in her remarks, “This is excellent work and enables medical professionals from Civil Affairs to conduct critical training with their counterparts from the Ministry of Health. We are privileged to help Djiboutians who have shown great initiative and prowess.”
U.S. Ambassador to Djibouti, Jonathan Pratt, spoke at length about the many aspects of the partnership between the U.S. and Djibouti, “We are proud to work side by side, every day, with our Djiboutian partners and colleagues to ensure that our contributions to health care, job creation, education, and security are working for the benefit of all Djiboutians.” Ambassador Pratt mentioned USAID funding to train Djiboutians to secure jobs, help businesses and individuals recover from the effects of COVID, and provide access to COVID vaccines throughout the country. He concluded by saying the U.S. is fortunate to have Djibouti as a partner in our shared goal of security and stability.
